Volunteers sign-up now - for David Thompson on the Columbia - student Field Experience -
May 9 to June 9

David Thompson on the Columbia - Student Field Experience. This largest of all 2011 Columbia Brigade Bicentennial events, begins May 9 and will run through June 9th. Teams of six are being assembled now. Contact Volunteer Coordinator Patty Moore; e-mail - patty1moore@charter.net      or call 670-6441. The function of each team is to complete a pre-programmed twenty minute Voyageur Canoe paddling experience with a crew of eight to ten students commencing from Wenatchee's Orondo Street Boat Launch.

Ballard Ambulance Parent/Student comfort station

Safety Always Comes First. With the professional coordination of emergency services through Ballard Ambulance, students, parents, and volunteers will have ample support. If the unexpected occurs, Ballard, along with Wenatchee Emergency Services are either on site or just minutes away.

  • On-Site shelter for heat or cold concerns
  • Water, Blankets, First-Aid Kits
  • Qualified volunteers on hand to provide assistance

Students will Be paddling outdoors in a ten person Voyageur Canoe

Voyageur Canoeing is an outdoor activity requiring appropriate clothing for the day. It involves a special kind of canoe. Veteran paddlers from the Wenatchee Row and Paddle Club will guide students through a memorable Voyageur Canoe experience, commencing from the Orondo St. Boat Launch.

  1. Life jackets will be provided to each paddler and must be worn at all times.
  2. No special clothing is required. Just dress for the weather that day.
  3. Canoe paddles will also be provided

If you are interested in the fur trade, the preservation of historic waterways or a glimpse into our recent past, you will love this adventure. You could be a Voyageur on our next Brigade. This could be the trip of a lifetime or the beginning of a new tradition..

Along with paddling a Voyageur Canoe, students will experience hands on authentic items used by Thompson and his crew during the first trip down the Columbia River.
